Care & Use Guide

We believe that caring for textiles doesn’t end when they leave our workshop. This guide offers practical ways to maintain garments and linens between professional cleanings, helping you preserve texture, colour, and overall longevity.

1. Day-to-Day Care

After wear, allow garments to air briefly before placing them back in storage. Avoid returning slightly damp items directly to wardrobes, as trapped moisture encourages odour and fabric stress. For shirts and dresses, use shaped hangers to maintain form, and keep zips or buttons fastened.

2. Storage

Store fabrics in cool, dry conditions away from direct sunlight. Cotton and linen benefit from breathable covers rather than sealed plastic. If items are stored seasonally, fold them loosely with acid-free tissue and avoid heavy stacking. Keep woollens with a light cedar insert to discourage moth activity.

3. Spot Cleaning

Blot spills gently rather than rubbing. Use plain, cold water when uncertain — strong household agents may fix the stain instead of removing it. When you deliver the item to us, note the nature of the mark and any prior attempts so we can select the appropriate method.

4. Washing at Home

Check care labels before using household machines. Many fabrics respond well to low-temperature cycles, while others, such as silk or wool, require specialist treatment. Do not overload drums; movement and rinse quality are key to maintaining softness. Avoid chlorine-based bleach, which weakens natural fibres.

5. Ironing and Pressing

If ironing at home, match the temperature to the fabric type and use steam where safe. Press through a clean cotton cloth to prevent shine. For layered garments or pleated areas, lift and press rather than dragging the iron. Always allow fabrics to cool before folding or hanging.

6. Refreshing Between Services

Lightly misting linens with distilled water and smoothing them by hand can freshen appearance without washing. Garments that have picked up odours may benefit from brief airing outdoors on a shaded line. Avoid scented sprays containing alcohol, which can mark silk and delicate blends.

7. Professional Care Cycles

Items cleaned regularly last longer than those left for long intervals. Soil, perspiration, and natural oils build up over time, causing fabric fatigue. Scheduling periodic professional care — even for pieces worn infrequently — helps preserve structure and colour balance.

8. Alterations and Repairs

Address small tears, loose seams, and button issues early. Our team can recommend local repair partners who work alongside us. Keeping garments in rotation rather than replacement reduces both cost and environmental impact.

9. Communication

We encourage open communication with our clients. If you notice repeated marks, texture change, or uncertainty about a cleaning method, speak with our counter staff or email us. Each discussion adds to our understanding of how your fabrics respond and helps refine future care.
